Little Redo: Kids Bathroom

I am 100% sure my kids don’t care about the décor of their bathroom, but your kids might. Either way they still deserve a beautiful clean space, and I really think it benefits them regardless if they realize.

 

As I write this, I’m finding out the only before pictures I took of this bathroom were after I was done, but before the new rug arrived. The benefit of that is that you can really see what a difference one item can make. I honestly think the room look and feels better without that faded old rug. I will let you know; most this décor was already here. The yellow and grey replaced princesses a few years ago. I was more than ready to have a bathroom that didn’t feel like a child’s playroom. Transitioning to a more grown-up space was a good time to make it clear they needed to start being responsible for their own hygiene more than before. While we can remind them to shower forever, hopefully we don’t have to. The bright color helps with morning moods as they prepare themselves for the day. 

Wall mounted individual coat hangers allowed us to hang the towels lower, in a space that a towel rack would have seemed out of place. An art organizer on the counter can be a great spot for tooth brushing supplies. A suction cup toothbrush holder is a great pick too. We use both so everyone has a spot. These items keep the counters clear for easy cleaning. 

The organizer was found at the Dollar Tree and Totoro was an Amazon purchase. We created some fun wall art, by hanging canvas paper from painted close pins. They are mounted to the wall with 3M Command Strips. The art itself is a punny cellphone background from Tastemade. The story behind this choice is about my oldest, who until the age of 4 when she realized how gross it is, would sneak butter packets everywhere we went. She still loves butter with food, but at least now she isn’t trying to eat it with a spoon.

When doing our little redo, we made sure to give everything a good wash (shower curtain included). The fresh full clean and new key items really did make the space more enjoyable. Even if having a clean, beautiful space isn't a priority for you, it is good for you.

About 8 years ago, back when we lived in NC a friend showed me this. 

I'm overly worried about safety when it comes to most things, but especially the kids bath. At that time in my life I was a single mom with a roommate and my kids and me were sharing a bathroom. A shared shower space means lots of things that need to be kept out of reach. Expensive products and razors to name a few. Those pressure shelves made for showers always made me nervous. Deep down I know most of the time they are safe, but that never stopped my mind from picturing it all crashing down on wee baby heads. This was the perfect solution. 

Still today we use this solution to keep the kids bathroom tidy and easy to clean. There is no moisture build up since there's nothing sitting around. In addition it keeps the products out of the hands of our littlest one. 

I ordered all the items from amazon. The bathroom command hook is great for their loofah's too. It's been up there for over a year now and is still holding strong. Having mesh organizers allows everything to dry out. The shower curtain rod is a 43" to 72" tension rod, and rests on the side ledges for extra support.
