Little Redo: Kids Bathroom

I am 100% sure my kids don’t care about the décor of their bathroom, but your kids might. Either way they still deserve a beautiful clean space, and I really think it benefits them regardless if they realize.

As I write this, I’m finding out the only before pictures I took of this bathroom were after I was done, but before the new rug arrived. The benefit of that is that you can really see what a difference one item can make. I honestly think the room look and feels better without that faded old rug. I will let you know; most this décor was already here. The yellow and grey replaced princesses a few years ago. I was more than ready to have a bathroom that didn’t feel like a child’s playroom. Transitioning to a more grown-up space was a good time to make it clear they needed to start being responsible for their own hygiene more than before. While we can remind them to shower forever, hopefully we don’t have to. The bright color helps with morning moods as they prepare themselves for the day.

Wall mounted individual coat hangers allowed us to hang the towels lower, in a space that a towel rack would have seemed out of place. An art organizer on the counter can be a great spot for tooth brushing supplies. A suction cup toothbrush holder is a great pick too. We use both so everyone has a spot. These items keep the counters clear for easy cleaning.

The organizer was found at the Dollar Tree and Totoro was an Amazon purchase. We created some fun wall art, by hanging canvas paper from painted close pins. They are mounted to the wall with 3M Command Strips. The art itself is a punny cellphone background from Tastemade. The story behind this choice is about my oldest, who until the age of 4 when she realized how gross it is, would sneak butter packets everywhere we went. She still loves butter with food, but at least now she isn’t trying to eat it with a spoon.

When doing our little redo, we made sure to give everything a good wash (shower curtain included). The fresh full clean and new key items really did make the space more enjoyable. Even if having a clean, beautiful space isn't a priority for you, it is good for you.

I tried to add all the organizing items to one list: Click here for that link.

***Update: All the bathroom organizing.***

I wanted to add this from @orderbalancebeingwell on Instagram. This was already in place before the redo, but this seemed like the right spot to share.

"Tension Shower Curtain Rod"

"4 Ring Mesh Pocket Organizer"

"Command Bathroom Multi Hook"

About 8 years ago, back when we lived in NC a friend showed me this.

I'm overly worried about safety when it comes to most things, but especially the kids bath. At that time in my life I was a single mom with a roommate and my kids and me were sharing a bathroom. A shared shower space means lots of things that need to be kept out of reach. Expensive products and razors to name a few. Those pressure shelves made for showers always made me nervous. Deep down I know most of the time they are safe, but that never stopped my mind from picturing it all crashing down on wee baby heads. This was the perfect solution.

Still today we use this solution to keep the kids bathroom tidy and easy to clean. There is no moisture build up since there's nothing sitting around. In addition it keeps the products out of the hands of our littlest one.

I ordered all the items from amazon. The bathroom command hook is great for their loofah's too. It's been up there for over a year now and is still holding strong. Having mesh organizers allows everything to dry out. The shower curtain rod is a 43" to 72" tension rod, and rests on the side ledges for extra support.

Basement Tour

Fitting a family of 6 in 900 square feet? Well, it's about 1200 square feet when I factor in our older children staying in bedrooms two stories above ours. This was our challenge for the next year. I love this basement. It holds such a fond place in my heart. Forever, it will feel like a new beginnings. When we moved to PA from North Carolina, this is where we got settled. There are so many beautiful memories of our kids, being kids, not the almost teens they are now. Growing up, I lived in small places out of necessity; I never appreciated that fact. As an adult, I chose bigger until I learned bigger is not always better. Our townhome taught me to enjoy having just enough space.   It is less to clean, easier to keep up, cheaper to fix everything, less monthly costs, and more time and money for our family and the things we love. A year in the basement with only the necessities was welcome and exciting. In preparing to sell the townhouse, we went through each room, packing awa...

Back to the Basement

You may have heard the saying, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans.” This could not be more true than when we decided to sell the townhouse. We had decided to stay. We could likely get 3 to 5 more years from the space. Our little ones were growing up. More space would be ideal, but this was enough. Interest rates were low in the summer of 2021, but we didn’t want to refinance since we wouldn’t be here long-term. Then it happened. One afternoon, I woke up from a nap and started scrolling through Facebook. Our son’s daycare teacher posted a listing for her brother’s house. 4 bedrooms, with a basement and a fenced-in yard. Our toddler loved to be outside. With the lack of a fenced-in yard (and no way to achieve it), this had been added to the want list. It was the perfect house. I told my husband let’s just go look. That is what started it all. We did look, and we loved it. However, it was in the next school district. A change we were not willing to make. Rega...

Movie Night Birthday

When my daughter turned 8 she wanted to have her friends over to watch a movie. She had never had a big party with all her friends, so I was very excited to make this happen for her. The Dollar Tree came in handy for popcorn buckets and a variety of movie theater candy.  Amazon also has paper buckets. Amazon had a great selection of themed décor. We even used leftover table runners to line the walkway. ( Banner ,  Hanging Decor , Balloons ) We prefilled buckets with popped popcorn, and lined up the many popcorn salt varieties. Something that never occurred to me before the day, not all kids like popcorn. I would have had a backup up of chips and pretzels if I could do it again. There was also plenty of mini waters with all that salty food. We set up every seating option we could think of, so everyone could have a cozy spot. For a take home treat we sent popcorn, candy, and popcorn bucket’s. ( Clea...
